ALEC² is lightweight, fireproof, corrosion proof ceramic composite, has a very low thermal conductivity, is ~1/5 the density of aluminum, is ~1/3 the density of a carbon epoxy composite, 100% circular and sustainable using 85% recycled waste materials and is 100% recyclable at the products' end-of-life.

ALEC² is a suitable material for use in applications where two or more of following properties are important for success:

  2. Green - ~85% of raw material from industrial mineral waste

  3. Fire proof and not just fire resistant

  5. Light-weight

  11. Low thermal conductivity

The final product is made by combining two commercially available materials and both readily available, nontoxic and earth friendly; ALEC² can be molded to very complex shapes.

Fire: ALEC² does not ignite and therefore has a ZERO burn rate

  • No ignition and no heat release

  • Produces no smoke or toxic fumes - during processing or in fire event

  • No heat release at any heat flux


Material Properties:

  • Density: 0.5 to 0.6 g/cc

  • Softening temperature: ~1,000°C

  • Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE): 7 to 8 ppm/°C

  • Coefficient of Thermal Conductivity (K): 0.10 W/m-°C

Mechanical Strength:

  • Compression Strength: 750 to 1000 psi

  • Flexure Strength: 450 psi

  • Short Beam Shear: 50 to 60 psi

  • E Modulus: 1.0 to 1.3 GPa (0.14 to 1.7 msi)

24-hour Water immersion: Strength loss is Marginal to Negligible

Other attributes:

  • Material is nailable and bondable

  • Can be built as a sandwich structure.

  • Suitable for complex mold shapes - low to no pressure depending on complexity
